Biography
Earl W. Houston, II is a Director and Shareholder with Martin Tate and specializes in defending transportation, retail, manufacturing, construction and insurance companies in lawsuits including, but not limited to, wrongful death, catastrophic injury, property damage, premises liability, products liability, professional negligence, employment law, and general business dispute matters. He has both trial and mediation experience and is licensed to practice before Federal and State Courts in Tennessee and Mississippi.
In 2009, Mr. Houston was appointed by Governor Phil Bredesen to serve on the Tennessee Board of Court Reporting which is prestigiously comprised of judges, attorneys and court reporters, and implements policies and procedures that protect the written record in legal proceedings. He was reappointed to the Board by Governor Bill Haslam.
In 2010 and 2017, Mr. Houston was selected to serve on the Merit Selection Panel for the Re-Appointment of United States Magistrate Judges for the Western District of Tennessee. He is a graduate of the Tennessee Bar Association’s Leadership Law Program, was a recipient of the prestigious Sam Myar, Jr. Memorial Award for under age 40 accomplishments, and was named a Best in Bar finalist by The Memphis Business Journal.
Mr. Houston served as President of the Memphis/Mid-South Chapter of the Federal Bar Association in 2016. He currently serves on the board for the USLAW NETWORK, Inc. and the Presbyterian Day School, and is recognized by his peers as a Super Lawyers’ Rising Star.
Mr. Houston is a member of the Leo Bearman, Jr. Inns of Court and served on the Local Rules Committee for the United States District Court for the Western District of Tennessee.
Mr. Houston joined Martin Tate in 2008. He is a graduate of the University of Mississippi, 2002, and Mississippi College School of Law, 2005. He is married to Iyona Hilliard Houston, a native of Memphis.
