Martin Tate's tax practice is extensive, representing corporations, partnerships, sole proprietorships, limited liability companies, individuals, trusts and estates, and involving all types of federal, state, and local taxation in Tennessee, Mississippi, and Arkansas.  Our attorneys handle matters involving income, franchise, excise, sales/use, business (gross receipts), property, gift, and estate taxes.  

Several Martin Tate attorneys work extensively on tax-related matters and hold Masters Degrees in Tax or Accounting and/or are Certified Public Accountants (inactive).  Many other Martin Tate attorneys frequently work on tax-related matters as part of their practice, including trial lawyers and property lawyers.

Martin Tate represents its clients in several areas of tax planning, seeking to minimize, wherever possible, the tax cost of a transaction or business operation.  In some instances, we prepare tax returns our clients are required to file.  We represent our clients before all types of administrative bodies, including the Internal Revenue Service, the County Assessors of Property, the County Trustees, the County and State Boards of Equalization, and the State Departments of Revenue, and in all of the state and federal courts, including state trial and appellate courts, the United States Tax Court, the United States District Courts, and the United States Courts of Appeals.
